Who is this for?
I set out to write this guide with my past-self in mind. My goal was to create a resource I would’ve loved to have to navigate the many questions and decisions leading up to my SUV camper build and the details to execute the plan.
This is for a beginner that has no idea where to start, or for a more skilled human who is interested in the details of an existing build to further their own. I hope to provide you with a good headstart on your SUV camper build.
This guide is based on the camper I built in my 2006 GMC Yukon (2nd Generation). While every vehicle model and year is different in shape and size, you will find valuable information for any camper design (e.g. the solar and electrical system).
You might find the following models to be comparable to a GMC Yukon: Chevy Tahoe, Ford Expedition, Nissan Armada, Jeep Wagoneer, Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon XL or Denali.
What does it include?
- How to start, questions to ask yourself and action you can take now.
- The build workflow process.
- The thought behind my camper design.
- Breakdown and details of my camper build.
- Dimensions from my completed build.
- Dimensions from my 2006 GMC Yukon cargo space.
- Some alternative options to my build choices.
- Explanation of the solar and electrical system.
- Cost of the build breakdown.
- Virtual 3D model of my camper (SketchUp File)
- Many photos of the camper.
- Additional resources, links and products used.
- FAQs for life on the road.
What this does not include:
- Advanced woodworking or building how-to.
- Advanced solar and electrical how-to.
- Professional advice.
- Mechanical information.
- Adjustments for varied vehicles.
- An overview of every possible option.
- An exact outline, manual or step-by-step instructions.
